nutrition<font color="#E5E5E5"> Allah Natalie for those of</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> you</font> who haven't<font color="#E5E5E5"> seen me in the past I'm a</font> registered<font color="#CCCCCC"> dietician and I like to</font> simplify complicated nutrition information for you in these informative videos so this video<font color="#CCCCCC"> is about the new</font>

food label that will be appearing in july of 2018 the news broke just<font color="#E5E5E5"> last</font> week that they have solidified what will be on<font color="#E5E5E5"> the new nutrition label on the</font> back of all of your food products<font color="#E5E5E5"> and</font> i'm going to<font color="#E5E5E5"> give you what i think are</font>

the<font color="#CCCCCC"> most important points in the top</font> about how<font color="#CCCCCC"> that will affect you if you</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">are an athlete so let's break it down</font> first let me<font color="#CCCCCC"> show you an example of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> what</font> the food label looks like now the new food label that's<font color="#E5E5E5"> coming out and look</font>

pretty similar but they'll be significant changes first off the calories will be the<font color="#E5E5E5"> biggest flaw line</font> on the food label so the<font color="#E5E5E5"> font will</font> actually be bigger and it will stand out the other thing that goes along with the

calories is that serving sizes will change so if you ever<font color="#E5E5E5"> noticed if you buy</font> a say 20 ounce bottle of soda the Sri sizes sometimes are<font color="#CCCCCC"> 8 ounces when the</font> bottle is 20 ounces now the service sizes will be more reflective<font color="#E5E5E5"> of what</font>

people actually eat in one sitting so<font color="#E5E5E5"> services is used to be confusing</font> because you would<font color="#CCCCCC"> think that bottle of</font> soda have 50 colors and realistically it could have 250 calories in it if you did all the math to figure out how<font color="#CCCCCC"> many</font>

servings were actually in one bottle so on the new food label it'll have the serving size reflective of what the actual container is and then you won't have<font color="#E5E5E5"> to do any math you'll actually be</font> able to see<font color="#CCCCCC"> how many</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> calories are just</font>

by just looking at the<font color="#CCCCCC"> calories lon the</font> other thing that's<font color="#CCCCCC"> new all this food</font> label is they're going<font color="#E5E5E5"> to put a line for</font> added sugars which i think is<font color="#E5E5E5"> really</font> cool this<font color="#E5E5E5"> I</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> always think of the yogurts</font> so there's actually<font color="#E5E5E5"> natural sugar in</font>

yogurt and its natural sugar in the form of lactose that sugar is not bad<font color="#CCCCCC"> for you</font> in any<font color="#E5E5E5"> way however there's a lot of</font> extra sugar edit two things for flavor so there will now be a line for added sugars to show you how<font color="#E5E5E5"> much sugar is</font>

being added to the product<font color="#E5E5E5"> that you're</font> going<font color="#E5E5E5"> to be eating this</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> is really</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> big</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">for things like bread chips think so you</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">don't necessarily think have sugar in</font> them but actually do that's really<font color="#E5E5E5"> great</font> so those are<font color="#CCCCCC"> the basics but there's two</font>

things that I want to<font color="#E5E5E5"> talk</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> about in</font> terms of athletes and those are your vitamins so vitamin A and vitamin C always used<font color="#E5E5E5"> to be on every food label</font> the FDA has now determined that those are not nutrients of concern which

basically means that<font color="#CCCCCC"> no not no one but</font> not a lot of<font color="#CCCCCC"> people are deficient in</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">vitamin A and vitamin C so we don't have</font> to label it more vitamin<font color="#E5E5E5"> D and potassium are being</font> added to the food<font color="#CCCCCC"> label because these</font>

are nutrients that people are very deficient in vitamin<font color="#E5E5E5"> D and potassium are</font> extremely important<font color="#CCCCCC"> for athletes and</font> I'll tell<font color="#E5E5E5"> you why vitamin D is very</font> essential to<font color="#E5E5E5"> foam formation and bone</font> health without<font color="#CCCCCC"> enough vitamin D you</font>

could have weak bones which can actually just stress fractures in athletes so getting enough vitamin<font color="#CCCCCC"> D is very</font> important it's fantastic<font color="#CCCCCC"> that it's going</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">to be on the new food labels because you</font> can look at the items you're eating and

make<font color="#CCCCCC"> sure that you're getting</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> enough</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">within a day the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> other thing is</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> it's</font> something that most people about 75% of people are deficient in in the summer <font color="#E5E5E5">you get enough vitamin D from the Sun</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">but what about all the time you spend</font>

indoors at your office sitting<font color="#CCCCCC"> at your</font> desk so now if you can see<font color="#E5E5E5"> it on a food</font> label and try to quantify<font color="#E5E5E5"> how much of a</font> you're eating you can have a better understanding of whether<font color="#E5E5E5"> or not you're</font> going<font color="#E5E5E5"> to vitamin D in your diet so</font>

that's really<font color="#E5E5E5"> fantastic for people who</font> do high-impact sports kind of like running gymnastics dancing because your bones are very sensitive although you're building strong bones with those high impact sports you're also putting your

bones at risk if<font color="#E5E5E5"> you land on something</font> wrong if you're wearing<font color="#E5E5E5"> the wrong shoes</font> or if you're not getting enough vitamin D the other thing is<font color="#E5E5E5"> potassium potassium</font> is one of the electrolytes so electrolytes are sodium and potassium

what that means is within your cells there's a certain ratio of sodium potassium potassium want us to be on the <font color="#CCCCCC">inside of the cell want us to be on the</font> outside<font color="#E5E5E5"> and so these electrolytes</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> needs</font> to stay<font color="#E5E5E5"> in balance and what they don't</font>

is when we<font color="#CCCCCC"> start to feel the effects and</font> a lack of potassium can cause muscle cramping so that's why potassium is very important electrolyte that is in sports drinks because when you're sweating you <font color="#E5E5E5">actually are losing some potassium in</font>

your sweat so knowing how much potassium you have is super important<font color="#E5E5E5"> for athletes</font> because it can prevent you from having muscle cramps and it can also prevent you from having fatigue during exercise because if you're<font color="#CCCCCC"> not getting enough</font>

electrolytes if you're not replenishing those while<font color="#E5E5E5"> you're exercise you're going</font> to cramp up and feel<font color="#E5E5E5"> fatigued so those</font> are really the things on the<font color="#E5E5E5"> new food</font> label that I feel are most important to you guys the athletes out there if you
